Have you ever been embarrassed by a past conversation popping up when you least expect it? Or maybe you needed to reference old messages for work, but found that they'd been deleted or lost along the way. ChatGPT may have the solution to those problems, with its options to disable chat history and export data. But why are these options such a big deal?
Let's say you're planning a surprise party for your friend, but you need to communicate with other party planners. You create a group chat, and everything seems to be going great. But then, weeks later, there's a miscommunication and your friend finds out about the party before the big day. You try to act surprised, but it's clear that the surprise has been ruined. If only you could have disabled the chat history, your secret might have been safe.
Another example could be within the workplace, where sensitive data is being shared. Say someone accidentally sends the wrong document in a group chat that includes those who should not have access to it. If the chat history were disabled, the damage could be mitigated, and the company's secrets would still be safe. On the other hand, if you needed to reference that sensitive document for legal or investigatory reasons, you'd be grateful for the option to export the data and have an archived copy on file.
