Artificial Intelligence (AI) has come a long way since its inception, with ChatGPT being one of the notable platforms. However, experts have raised concerns that AI technology, similar to ChatGPT, could be created and sold to criminals. If this technology is misused, it could result in devastating consequences.
There are already examples of AI technology being exploited for criminal activity, with a range of chatbot scams seen worldwide. One example is the Chinese chatbot, 'Xiaoi Bot', which was hired by criminals to send fraudulent messages to Chinese Citizens from official government accounts. This caused individuals to unknowingly supply their bank details, leading to financial losses.
Another example is the AI technology used to create deepfake videos, used to manipulate and deceive individuals. Deepfake technologies have become so complex, that it is almost impossible to distinguish the contact from real individuals. This has sped up the process of not only identity theft but also espionage and malicious activity.
