This technology has enabled AMD to create some of the most powerful CPUs on the market, such as the AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series processors, which are designed for gamers and creators.

The Role of AI in Chip Design

While chiplets are impressive on their own, AMD has also been using artificial intelligence to aid in the process of creating CPUs. AI algorithms can analyze millions of iterations of chip designs to find the most efficient layout quickly. "We've found that our AI tools can reduce the time it takes to design a new analog circuit by up to 30 percent," stated Papermaster.

AMD uses a combination of machine learning and physics-based simulations to inform its AI algorithms. With this technology, they can optimize their chiplets even further, resulting in faster, more efficient CPUs.

The performance gains achieved by AMD's hybrid CPUs with the help of AI are evident. In benchmark tests carried out by tech publication AnandTech, the AMD Ryzen™ 9 5950X CPU outperformed Intel's Core i9-11900K CPU by up to 19% in single-core tests and 7% in multi-core tests. These impressive results are a testament to the power of chiplets and AI in the world of CPU design.

AMD's Ryzen™ 9 5950X CPU isn't the only product that has impressed tech enthusiasts and creators alike. The AMD EPYC™ 7003 Series processors have been used by some of the biggest names in the tech world, including Google and Microsoft. "What we're seeing is a moment where the entire industry is realizing that AMD is a major player, and we're just getting started," exclaimed Papermaster.
